TEOCHEW CITY MAKES ART OUT OF ITS EXCLUSIVE RANGE OF EXQUISITELY HANDCRAFTED DIM SUM

Having a meal nowadays is as much a gastronomic affair as a visual and tactile one. The food must taste excellent on top of being an eye candy in its presentation. On the whole, it makes the dining experience a sensual and pleasurable one. To that, Teochew City Seafood Restaurant has perfected with its unique range of exquisite handcrafted "New Creation" dim sum.
Unlike the traditional siew mai (pork dumpling) and har kow (prawn dumpling) that are usually served hot from the kitchen in steamer baskets made of bamboo, Teochew City's new and exclusive dim sum creations are skilfully shaped to resemble charming little animals and deliciously plated to further whet one's appetite.

Hailed as the latest culinary trend in Hong Kong, such "dim sum sculpting" has definitely brought culinary art to a higher level of creativity.

"True culinary excellence in dim sum making is reflected in both the taste and the presentation of each dish. At Teochew City Seafood Restaurant, we want to be the first to champion such culinary excellence with our exquisite new range of dim sum treats. We believe that when the food looks good, it tastes even better. We are confident that consumers will be charmed by how our "New Creation" dim sum looks and tastes," said Ms Alicia Tan, Marketing Manager of Prima Limited, which owns PFS Pte Ltd, the subsidiary that operates Teochew City Seafood Restaurant.

Inspired by television cartoons, the range of quaintly shaped dim sum is the brainchild of restaurant manager, Brian Wong of Teochew City Seafood Restaurant. For one intensive month, he worked closely with the restaurant's dim sum chefs to concoct the exclusive range of handcrafted dim sum before introducing the dishes to dim sum fans in January this year.

The delicious range of pretty knickknacks include Honey Bee (deep fried prawn paste), Little Duck (lotus paste wrapped in fragrant pastry crust) and Deep Fried Yam Prawn with Almonds, which takes the shape of a prawn in a graceful stance.

For consumers who prefer non-fried or baked items, Teochew City Seafood Restaurant also offers two magnificent dim sum cold dishes in its new menu. A must-try is its Mango with Mixed Salad, which boasts sautéed jellyfish, shredded duck and chicken, finely sliced mango, honey dew, cucumber and lettuce in a tangy sesame and peanut sauce. For seafood fans, the Mango Boat is a must-have with its fresh prawns, whole scallops and salmon slices served on a generous cut of fresh mango fruit and mayonnaise.

In the steam dim sum department, the new menu offers the Steamed Prawn Paste and Steamed Little Goldfish. While the former is skilfully crafted to resemble two charming little birds in flight, the latter is platted to resemble two swimming majestic fish.

" We are very encouraged by the reactions of many of the restaurant's patrons, who were truly charmed and appreciative of the exquisite dim sum offered here. Teochew City Seafood Restaurant will continue to innovate to "surprise" our patrons. We only fear that they will soon find our dim sum too beautiful to eat!" said Ms Tan.
